Continuous Emissions Monitoring Was A Huge Deal To Make Certain That We We're Not Polluting The Environment

By Marline W. Berger

When I was given a promotion at work, I was eager to learn my new responsibilities, but one task I was not expecting was hiring someone to provide continuous emissions monitoring. I had been working in the main office for a paper company for nine years and in all that time, I had never even seen the actual manufacturing plant. I had been wishing for this promotion for many months and getting it meant that I would be in charge of overseeing operations at the plant.

I was not very familiar with the workings at the plant so I was a little bit overwhelmed particularly because the system we had for emissions monitoring was not going well. Most people are not aware that paper manufacturing puts out a lot of emissions and of course it is important for us to be mindful of the effect we are having on the environment.

In this new position it fell under my responsibility to decide the best way to monitor the emissions. This is not a job for any random mom and pop store down on the corner, it needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing and have the extremely specialized equipment to do it. I took this assignment seriously, because it affected not only my career, but the future success of my company as well as the whole community around us.

I decided to search online and I quickly found several companies that looked promising, but when I looked closer they mostly specialized in different industries, and I really wanted a company that was familiar with the specific needs of a paper company. I took a much longer time narrowing down the various candidates until I finally found one that I liked and gave them a call.

They understood my needs instantly and were extremely helpful in explaining exactly what they could do to fill our continuous emissions monitoring needs. I learned a lot from just the short conversation we had, such as the importance of the use of an infrared gas analyzer. After this initial conversation, I was sold and told them to get to work right away, which they did. I am so glad now that I did hire them, as they quickly discovered some trace emissions that had gone unnoticed previously, and my superiors at work were so pleased with me. Everything was coming up roses for me, and I was loving the praise I was getting at work, and it was all because of the great company I found.
